French publisher Voodoo announces hyper-casual development competition. The competition will start on October 10th, 2021, and finish on December 10th. Recently, Voodoo has been in the news since they acquired an Israeli studio, Beach Bum.
During the competition, Voodoo will provide assistance to all participants in a launch of a hyper-casual game. The competition will have support from Voodoo’s publishing, marketing, and product teams, who will lend their expertise and knowledge to the developers.
Moreover, the company will be offering live streams, where developers can get helpful information about the further development of their prototypes.
Also, aside from winning prizes, the developers will get the chance to present their ideas.
The Competition’s Rules and Prizes
Voodoo stated that there would be no limit on the total value of prizes per studio. This means that developers can submit as many prototypes as they want to and win multiple prizes.
The first prize, as Voodoo stated, is $1 million. A developer is eligible to receive the first prize if their game meets all competition guidelines. However, one of the rules is – the game needs to have at least five million downloads on US iOS.
This rule applies to the first four months from the full launch date. In this case, the full launch date means the day that Voodoo spends more than $10,000 on user acquisition.
The second prize is $200,000. Any game launched or confirmed during or as a result of competition has a chance to win second place after the first-place winner is chosen.
When it comes to the third prize, the selection will be based on the game’s retention rate, as well as the cost per installation (CPI) metrics. In this case, unlike the first prize, Voodoo will measure the metrics on both Android and iOS.
For Android, every participant must have a CPI below 20 US cents, and D1 retention above 30%. These participants have a chance to win $10,000.
Additionally, rules on iOS are similar, the only difference being the CPI, which has to be below 30 US cents. The third prize for games on iOS is also $10,000.
Voodoo also stated that they hold the right not to publish the third-place game. But, those developers also cannot choose another publisher unless Voodoo provides them a written notice. The company will select winners by February of 2022, all of them signing publishing contracts with Voodoo.
Along with all of these prizes, Voodoo also granted a referral prize. The company will give this prize to those who refer a studio with a confirmed hit game during or after the competition. The rule for this prize is that a studio being referred cannot be an existing Voodoo partner. One participant who refers a studio will win $100,000.
